Geosystem PhD student Gabriela Paredes selected for a 2025 Hearts to Humanity Eternal (H2H8) research grant award

Gabriela Paredes, a geosystem PhD student advised by Prof. Athanasopoulos-Zekkos, has been selected for a 2025 Hearts to Humanity Eternal (H2H8) research grant award.

The H2H8 Association offers yearly grants for research to advance humanity to graduate students in L&S Division of Mathematical & Physical Sciences, and the College of Engineering at UC Berkeley. Hearts to Humanity Eternal is a non-profit organization with a mission to build a lasting, and growing community to advance humanity through science for the benefit of all. Gabriela's research focuses on “Strengthening Urban Resilience: Regional Flood Risk Analysis and Simplified Seismic Vulnerability Assessment of Levees in the Sacramento Delta,” and aims to develop predictive models for assessing flood risks and levee failures in one of California’s most critical ecological and economic regions. By integrating machine learning, geotechnical data analysis, and advanced flood modeling, this project seeks to provide actionable insights for urban planners, policymakers, and disaster management agencies.
