Dec 10, 2024
Prof. Jonathan Bray and Prof. Adda Athanasopoulos-Zekkos are serving as Chair and Secretary, respectively, of the Technical Committee (TC) 203 "Earthquake Geotechnical Engineering and Associated Problems" of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE). The ISSMGE is the preeminent international professional body representing the interests and activities of Geotechnical engineers, academics, and contractors. ISSMGE had its origins in the First International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering held in Harvard in 1936 in which a total of 206 delegates attended from 20 countries.
The ISSMGE now comprises Member Societies from about 90 countries and around 20,000 individual members. The TC203 Earthquake committee promotes and disseminates advances in the science and practice of earthquake geotechnical engineering to reduce seismic risk and improve the resilience of infrastructure systems and communities. Prof. Bray was elected TC203 Chair by its members and Prof. Athanasopoulos-Zekkos was appointed Secretary of TC203 in 2024.
