Jonathan Bray to Present the Prestigious Arthur Casagrande Lecture to the Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section
Oct 02, 2025

Prof. Jonathan Bray will deliver the prestigious 2025 Arthur Casagrande Lecture to the Geo-Institute of the Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section (BSCES) in Boston on October 16th. BSCES is the oldest engineering association in the United States and serves over 3,200 members across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Prof. Bray is internationally recognized for his expertise in geotechnical and earthquake engineering, with a focus on seismic performance of earth structures, liquefaction, seismic site response, and earthquake fault rupture propagation. He has been a leader in post-extreme hazard event reconnaissance. Professor Bray's research has been instrumental in advancing the understanding of soil response during seismic events. His extensive studies on seismic slope stability over 35 years have provided valuable insights into key mechanisms of slope deformation and their consequences, shaping guidelines and models that inform engineering practices and policies for enhancing earthquake resilience.
