Jonathan Bray presents the Burmister Lecture at Columbia University
Mar 24, 2025

Professor Jonathan Bray will present the Burmister Lecture at Columbia University, New York on March 25, 2025. He will discuss how knowledge is advanced through post-extreme event reconnaissance. Prof. Bray created and led the National Science Foundation-sponsored Geotechnical Extreme Events Reconnaissance (GEER) Association. He has led and participated in several post-earthquake teams that have documented the geotechnical effects of earthquakes.
In the previous week, Jonathan presented the keynote lecture at the GeoVirginia Conference held in Smithfield, Virginia. Prof. Bray’s research focuses on advancing engineering procedures to evaluate the effects of earthquakes. He has developed understanding and procedures to address the hazards of liquefaction, seismic slope stability, earthquake ground shaking, including near-fault effects, earth and tailings dam performance, soil-structure interaction, and surface fault rupture.
