Second Short Course on Geo-Infrastructure Sensing and Monitoring, held in May 2021, was an international success!
Sep 08, 2021
The second delivery of the short course on “New Technologies for Geo-Infrastructure Sensing and Monitoring” was held remotely on May 20-21 2021 and was a tremendous success. Similar to the original version that was held in January 2021, the short course had more than 100 participants worldwide. The short course also provided PDH hours for interested participants and included updated content based on feedback received by the participants. More than 95% of the participants who completed survey indicated they were satisfied with the content, and 90% of them would recommend it to their colleagues.
In total, 225 participants from 38 countries and 20 US States attended the two short course deliveries. The map below illustrates the geographic distribution of the participants. This included professionals working in consulting and construction firms, asset owners, federal and state government representatives, Faculty and students.
The short course presented approaches and frameworks for infrastructure monitoring, and specifically technologies such as GPS, Lidar, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles equipped with optical and infrared cameras, fiber optics and wireless sensor networks, and had plenty of time for discussion among the participants. Course instructors were Prof. Dimitrios Zekkos, Prof. Kenichi Soga and Prof. Rob Kayen from UC Berkeley as well as Dr. Ken Johnson from WSP. The course included truly unique content that is part of the ongoing research and industry activities at GeoSAL, the Geosystems Sensing and Analytics Laboratory a recently launched and shared research facility of the Geosystems Group.
